The Autumn That Was

I love autumn. I realised last year I think or maybe a year before that, that when it's proper Polish golden autumn I love it. I love the changing colours of trees, the ground covered with leaves, the sound they make when you walk, lack of evil mosquitoes and the crisp air. I love going to the woods... well that's true for whatever season actually. I think I could live in the woods, no people around...Antisocial much?
Anyway, as per usual my mind starts to wonder in another direction and in real conversation I'd have long forgotten where I was going with this. Thankfully I have it in writing up there in the title box, so what I wanted to show you was this...

before it went into this...

The last three taken with my phone, the rest with Nikon D3000.

My Big Fat Greek... Holiday - Part III

Gramvousa and Balos Lagoon - the only excursion we took organised by the hotel. Mainly because we were on a budget, but also because we were pretty damn lazy. Anyway, Gramvousa is an island off the north-western coast of Crete. We set off from Kissamos harbour and it took us about 45 minutes to get to the island that hosts the remains of Venetian fort and the remains of buildings left behind by Cretan insurgents, who were compelled to live as pirates, during the Greek War of Independence.
Yes I stole that off Wikipedia.

Another 20 minutes away by boat was Balos Lagoon where Prince Charles and Princess Diana visited many years ago. Gorgeous white sand and turquoise crystalline water... what's more to want?

Can you believe this blue?

Have a fab weekend

My Big Fat Greek... Holiday - Part II

Chania - the second largest city in Crete and has an airport where we landed. We took a trip there one day and walked around in a very noisy, busy and crowded place. When crossing a street you really need to have eyes at the back of your head. It wasn't very pretty either. Kind of ...seemed messy.

But the harbour... oh the harbour was beautiful. The architecture is great, reminded me of Venice a lot, which is no surprise as a lot of buildings were built during the Venetian era. The bay is full of cute restaurants with tables outside, checkered tablecloths and a great view at the lighthouse. We had a seafood lunch in one of them and drank a small bottle of Raki on the house. It was a lovely day followed by al ovely late afternoon on the beach and a night of drinking more Raki shots...

My Big Fat Greek... Holiday - Part I

Good morning or καλημέρα
I didn't mention this, because it was all up in the air until the very last minute but I I'd taken some time off from work and had gone on holiday a couple of weeks ago - to Crete in Greece. This was the fastest organised holiday in my life. I went with a friend of mine, who until Friday night, wasn't sure if she could go due to work commitments. So when she called me at 6:30 pm on Friday and told me she had a green light we were ecstatic and decided to meet at the travel agents in an hour. And two hours later we had an All Inclusive 7 day Crete holiday paid for.

We planned to do absolutely nothing all week, just lye on the beach, read books, sunbathe and REST. And that is exactly what we did. There's still over 500 pictures so I am going to divide them into a few posts. The holiday was fantastic and we really managed to relax and recharge batteries for the fall and winter ahead.

This is Maleme, the very small place our hotel was in. It was right on the beach where we spent most of our time during the week. These pictures sum it up perfectly.
